A Bespoke Accessible Kitchen on George Clarke’s Beautiful Builds

Renowned architect George Clarke helps families balance their budgets as they transform two vital aspects of their home in his new Channel 4 series: George Clarke’s Beautiful Builds.

Although this is not a Blaines kitchen, we are immensely proud of what our colleagues achieved for this client on national television. At Blaines, we are honoured to be among only a hand-selected few accessible kitchen designers in the country, and we understand how life-changing the right design can be. Projects like this highlight the importance of accessibility, not just as a practical necessity, but as a way of creating freedom, dignity, and joy at the heart of the home.

When Ben White and his partner were chosen to appear on the programme, they had a clear vision for their dream kitchen: stylish, accessible, and designed for modern family living. Ben, who has been a wheelchair user for over a decade following a skydiving accident, knew that Freedom by Symphony specialised in inclusive design and reached out to accessible design consultant Adam Thomas, whose work he admired.

The Transformation

The family’s existing kitchen was small, awkward, and limiting. Working with George Clarke and the show’s production team, Adam proposed a bold redesign — repositioning the kitchen, removing walls, and opening up the space. This created a large, free-flowing environment that allowed Ben true freedom of movement.

Sliding doors were relocated for better access to the garden and Ben’s new office, while every detail was carefully considered for accessibility and style. The result was not just a kitchen, but a home hub that brought together cooking, dining, living, and play in one welcoming space.

Kitchen Features

Beautiful Finishes – Symphony’s Melrose range in Merlot Red, paired with ribbed Costina Fresca accents and brass handles.

Premium Worktops – Corian® Calacatta Greige, including a stunning waterfall-edge rise-and-fall section.

Inclusive Features – A rise-and-fall worktop with integrated prep sink for flexible height, plus a dual sink setup.

Smart Appliances – NEFF Slide & Hide oven, DoorAssist fridge, and voice-activated controls through the HomeConnect app.

Everyday Luxury – ZIP HydroTap delivering instant boiling, chilled, or sparkling water.

This was a true collaboration between designer Adam Thomas, retailer Moorgate Kitchens, and the Symphony Freedom team — all working under the tight deadlines of television production.

The Result

The completed kitchen not only looks beautiful but also allows Ben and his family to cook, bake, and share meals together. With adaptable features, it’s inclusive and practical for everyone, turning the kitchen into the true heart of their home.
